As of late there have been a lot of schmucks (including this !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! being debbie downers about Lincoln and the future of the company. The fact is, though, they couldn't be in a better spot to surprise us all with fantastic cars that we all want. Here are just three things that will make them lustworthy once again:

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

1. Great products now.

Take a look at the Lincoln MKS.

Kinja'd!!!

It's big, bold, slab sided, and kinda intimidating. It has everything that made the 1963 lincoln Continental so cool. But then there is more to it than just looks and how big this car is.

Lets be honest here, the main competitor of this car wouldnt be an S-Class Mercedes, an A8 Audi, or a big BMW 7 series. That buyer is not who this car is intended for. This twin turbo v6 shares the market with the likes of the Audi a6, Mercedes E class, and the Cadillac XTS. Comparing apples to apples the lincoln comes out on top, with more power and more torque by quite a margin. But as I don't have any idea what the power curves are we will just have to use the 0-60: 5.6 sec; 1/4 mile: 14.0 sec of the MKS ECOBOOST vs the most powerful contender. The A6 with the supercharged 3 liter does 0-60 just .3 seconds faster at 5.3 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 13.8 seconds. This is all because the Lincoln is heavy. 300 pounds heavier than the audi counterpart.

And that may not be so bad. Remember, now, it is a luxury car and having a car that feels like it is hewn out of lead matters to that demographic of mid size luxury buyers. They might also see a .3 second difference in 0-60 times as insignificant. Then there is the price which under cuts the competition by anywhere from 10 to 20 grand! I'm no genius but that is a detail that can't be ignored.

And that pattern seems to be prevalent throughout their entire lineup. Its one of those things that make you go "HMMM" inquisitively.

2. Great Products Later.

Edmunds.com recently had an article about !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

It said very little aside from quoting the Global Head Of Marketing, Matt VanDyke, as saying "We won't rule out anything."

Let that sink in for a bit. Cool new rear drive Mustang? Yup, that could become a Lincoln. Aluminum body technologies pulled from the F-150? Well the MKS could lose a few pounds if we are honest. Lincoln MKZ Energi Plug in Hybrid with the twin turbo direct injection V8 Voodoo motor?!?! Realistically no, but it is not off the table. The potential for really, really, really cool platforms is coming soon if not already in development.

They also have current platforms they can toy with as well. For instance Ford recently trotted out the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! which changes up a current platform quite drastically without changing much else visually.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

These chassis are designed to be modular, to be shrunk, to be stretched, etc, etc. The possibilities are limitless. We may just get that RWD Continental based off of the Mustang that everyone has been wet dreaming of.

3. Fixing the broken

But then we get to Ford's "Thorn in the Flesh" as it were. What is the thing that people complain most about with Ford's new upscale cars? MYFORD and MYLINCOLN touch units with Sync. The amount of people saying !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! have !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! that people are calling ford !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! in how they handle it.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Personally I loved MyFord touch and never had any issues with it but the people have spoken. So what is it that the people want? According to many it's what they already have. Their phone. Their iPhone to be more precise.

Ford Is going to bring your iPhone to the dash of your new Lincoln via Apple's !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

This should allow application designers to be able to make apps for your car as well. Whether that is a good thing or not is another discussion entirely but it gives the masses what they want.

And what they might want next is a New Lincoln.

Show me the front end. Does it still have the ugly, humongous grille, with enough acreage to raise cattle?

The only issues I've had with MyFord Touch are minor calibration issues. and it was only when the cars we delivered to the dealership.

a correction you may want to take into consideration.

on your 1. Great products now you are referring to the MKS throughout the paragraph but the image is of a MKZ. I don't know if that was intentional or not. but I noticed it right away.

I won't want a Lincoln until Ford throws a few billion dollars at giving them new platforms and engines. And they won't do that.

The MKS EcoBoost has less than 410 horsepower, I know it does. Unless we're comparing the Lincoln's top-spec engine against the Cadillac's base motor, which would be an apples to oranges comparison. Top-spec motor to top-spec motor, the Cadillac has the Lincoln smoked.

Coming models don't really help right now, do they? Lincoln really needed some dedicated platforms a long time ago. Saying "they're coming" doesn't really help.

I can't say anything about MLT, as I've had no experience with it.

Until Ford puts some SERIOUS cash into Lincoln, it's always going to be an also-ran in the luxury world.

See Cadillac for inspiration Ford, that's what a company can become if you invest some cash in it.

This is big, bold, slab sided and intimidating:

Kinja'd!!!

And this is bland, bulbous, and boring:

Kinja'd!!!

This is a just Taurus which itself is basically a 1998 Volvo built with cheaper and heavier parts.

2. The Fusion lightweight actually has some really stupid ideas, such as hollow steel coil springs.

3. Ford really doesn't care about Lincoln, as it doesn't sell in Europe or China. I don't have faith for a bright future at Lincoln.

Luxury brands need halo cars. Lincoln hasn't had one since - when? The 70s maybe? I didn't see anything in the "product blitz" description that makes me particularly hopeful that something like this is in the works:

Every one of them is available in a Ford? They aren't bad engines, but they use 90% of the same engines their Ford counterpart has. They need more power or something to make it worth the extra money, and that should be easy to do since Ford is so turbo crazy. I know some Lincolns get an engine that the Ford version doesn't have, but it's not enough.

The side not pictured here is where this car falls apart. The front end of most Lincolns is unattractive and that's putting it nicely.

I want to like Lincoln, I really do. The first luxury car I ever rode in was an old town car, and it was incredible. Now though, I just don't see the value.

Most of the engines Audi uses are in VWs. Not sure how wasting money developing different engines is going to help anything. Ford made it clear the Fusion will never get the V6 which the Mkz has. The Duratec 37 was Lincoln only for a while and never made it into the Taurus.

You are clearly smoking that west coast weed. This post is so crack pipe and out of touch with reality, its as if courtney love wrote it. LETS BE SERIOUS. Why would you buy a Lincoln when you can buy literally anything else? The current MKS is an absolute joke. The interior is tiny, while the exterior is Phantom huge. The build quality is dubious at best. The features were cutting edge 5 years ago. The reality is if you were seriously in this market, short of being on the employee plan, I don't understand why you would go with the MKS over a Lexus GS, Merc E, Cadillac CTS/XTS, Audi A6, Acura RL. HELL, even the Acura RL has more reason to be in this price bracket, than this crap lincoln. Trust me when I tell you, I am who Lincoln is looking to sell to, and I walked right past their dealership and straight into the BMW showroom. The MKZ was nice, but the sales staff was trained by ford, and needs to only sell ford. The reality is that ford has not learned the lessons of Edsel.

If you want a premium car, ford can't sell you one because they don't know what premium means. The price tag is only part of the experience.

I'm not on west coast or any coast weed. I liked the Lincoln's I was around and while I would never buy one (I have a five series myself) I could see why people would. And I feel that with all the cool stuff ford is doing, they would be on the whacky weed if nothing trickled over. And no matter who builds it Somebody will buy it.
